And Instagram coaches and social media managers have been saying it for years: SHAREABLE CONTENT will help to put new eyes on your account.

And recently @mosseri has said that if people share your content (in truth he said ‘send your content via DM etc’ but y’know, same same...) Daddy Algo will pick this up as Mosseri says it’s a metric they track.

And in the long run, it will help your Reach.

And Reach my friend, is what we need to grow.

So how can you use this advice to grow YOUR account?

Think about what your ideal follower needs that you provide. You need to create content that shows that in a way that your followers will send onto others.

And the way to do that is to create something funny, that makes people laugh (and makes them look funny if they forward it on!), or to create something of value that people can use (think of how many recipes you’ve sent on; I share loads of good recipes with friends!).

Are you a yoga teacher or a fitness instructor? Can you share simple tips for improving core strength? Or the 5 key stretches that you never skip.

Are you a restaurant or a café. or a pub or a bar? Can you share your best selling cocktail recipe? Or your top 3 appetisers for a birthday party.

Think about what you would send to a friend. Think about what you provide your ideal follower. And that is the sweet spot for creating shareable content.

Think about the kind of things that you send to your friends or small business besties. It’s likely to be something that really made you laugh, or resonated or touched you in some way. Or something that was really educational or of value.

Ask yourself: how can I apply that to my small business?

Let’s say you’re a baby sleep consultant, you might make a post that says: if you’re tired of being woken up 6 times a night by baba and there just isn’t enough coffee to get you through the day, think about trying this…

Where ‘this’ is a valuable tip to help that tired sleep deprived mama 😴

Another parent seeing this post who has been there fatigued and feeding a baby at 2am is gonna share that post with another parent friend…

Shareable / sendable content. Focus on that. And @mosseri (and me!) says it will help your reach.

Have you ever wondered why you see so many Reels (or TikToks) where people are putting makeup on, making coffee etc while they either have a voiceover or text onscreen.

It’s a technique that comes from film making and is called pope in the pool.

The idea is if you’re talking about something that’s educational or of value, if you give people something interesting to watch at the same time, they’re likely to pay greater attention to it.

Now this will increase your watch time on Reels which is a good thing for teaching the algorithm that you are worth watching!

Insta pushes your content, your reach increases, and you’re likely to grow as new people find you.
